Can Reflexology help my mental health?

Updated: Aug 24, 2020

One of the things lots of my clients have in common is stress and the symptoms of anxiety, if these are left to grow then the symptoms can become worse and affect your wellbeing and mental health.

I thought now is a good time to write this post as I have just finished my level 2 in Mental Health Awareness and last week was Mental Health Awareness Week. Although just because the week is over does not mean that the conversation has ended ...

Mental Health problems affect a huge number of the population, all ages, all genders, all backgrounds.

According to mind.org.uk approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will suffer with a mental illness.

There are different mental health problems but a common symptom of many of them is stress and anxiety.

Reflexology is a complimentary therapy that can help to support these symptoms.

How Reflexology can help

Every part of the body has an energy pathway which ends at the reflexes (on the hand and the feet). When the body and the mind are in a state of stress these pathways become ‘blocked’ allowing the build up of toxins.

Reflexology helps to improve the circulation to your whole body, improving energy and releasing toxins, helping to release stress.

Reflexology can also promote good sleep which is vital for good mental health.

STOP

Have a think, what has been making you feel stressed or anxious lately?

Workload? Family? Finances?

While Reflexology cannot help with the cause of the stress it can help to reduce the build up of stress held in the body and aid sleep.

Reflexology can help you feel ‘better’ so that can feel able to cope with the cause of the stress.

What areas of the feet will be concentrated on?

During your reflexology treatment there are reflexes that can be concentrated on to help relieve the symptoms of stress and anxiety

Adrenals

When you are stressed or experiencing anxiety your body will be over producing adrenaline

Brain

During periods of stress and anxiety we over think and find it difficult to calm our thoughts

Colon

Stress and anxiety will have a negative impact on the digestive system causing it to become sluggish

Pineal Glad

Your natural body clock, normal sleep pattern can be disrupted by stress and anxiety
